]]> http://nickwardonline.com/lot-f-gallery-presents-three/feed/ 0 A Few Experiments in Mixed Media http://nickwardonline.com/a-few-experiments-in-mixed-media/ http://nickwardonline.com/a-few-experiments-in-mixed-media/#comments Mon, 12 Dec 2011 21:57:14 +0000 Nick Ward http://nickwardonline.com/?p=1116 I just finished three new small-ish mixed media pieces.  I started out by sketching out a simple line drawing of the portrait, then scanned it in and used the sketch to create a halftone pattern for screen printing.  Then, printed the image on primed panels and went back into the image using my normal methods of painting.  Mixing the mechanical looking screen prints with some pixelated looking painting seemed like a good combination and, overall I am pretty happy with the results.  I am thinking about pushing this technique further by using more layers in the screen print but I need to mull the ideas over a little more before I make the leap.  In any case, would love to get some feedback on these pieces and, if you like them, head on over to Lot F where all three (one printed in red, one printed in blue, and one printed in black) are available for sale this month.

By the way, excuse the junky cell phone photo, sent the pieces out without getting a decent image… oops.

For those that have been in the past, remember to find me in my new studio, #405 (that we are affectionately referring too as “The Tower”). I am the first door on the left, just before the Distillery Gallery when you come in though the main entrance. For those of you on Facebook, if you check in on my artist page during your visit I will give you a free print (until I run out!). I have a few different prints to choose from, all hand pulled signed and numbered screen or block prints.

I have plenty of big new paintings and some beer from Jacks Abbey brewery to share so, be sure to stop by.

It has taken forever since I have only posted updates as new paintings develop or I manage to weasel my way into interesting events or shows but here we are at the big 100th post.

To celebrate I am going to make a new print to give away to anyone who reads my site, here or on Facebook notes.

So, it will be a multi-color hand pulled screen print but, the choice of image is yours.

  1. another print based on one of the make-up girls paintings.
  2. a print based on one of the sunbather girls.
  3. an entirely new print, a sneak peak into the next series.

Anyone who wants can leave a comment on my site or on Facebook, or email me with your vote for image choice.

After that, anyone who reads these posts that wants a print can just send me an email letting me know that they want a copy of the print. I will give everyone a few weeks or maybe a month to respond to make sure nobody gets left out, then I will make a run of prints. Then, I will send everyone a hand pulled limited edition screen print.

So, like I said before, it is an edition of 20 prints. Each one is a hand pulled screen print that I then go back into and add finishing touches with brushes and ink. They are all slightly different, some are very basic and some have more embellishments on top of the original print. First 4 will be $10, second 4 will be $20 third 4 will be $40 and the price will continue to double like that until there are no prints left.

The print, called “Ready or Not, Here I Come”, will be four 8″ hand pulled screen prints on 8.5″x11″ cardstock. I will print a limited edition of 20 sets of 4 prints. To add a little twist to this experiment, the first 4 sets of 4 prints will be $10.00, then the price will double to $20.00 for the second 4 sets of prints, then $40.00 for the third four sets of prints, ect. until all 20 sets of prints are sold. So, it will be cheap for anyone that acts fast but, will get pricier when fewer prints are available.
